You will recognize this meal as shepherd’s pie, but this dish is made with venison, instead of the lamb or beef found in traditional English-Irish shepherd's pie recipes. So "hunter’s pie" is much more fitting. This gourmet outdoor stew is hearty and filling, and so much flavor you'll want to toss it in your pack for all your outdoor adventures. This is a decadent meal that will bring you comfort after a long day hunting, backpacking or hiking.
What I love about this pie is that it's everything in one dish: flavorful wild game, with creamy potatoes, gravy and a bit of vegetables. Our secret ingredient is a sprinkle of gourmet black mission figs. They are the best with a hint of sweetness in all that meat. This venison hunter’s pie is a complete meal in every bite. Enjoy it with a cold pint of stout or ale if you're not eating it in the back country;-)
